Dig 'em Up Necrons
This site is a fan site for the Games Workshop miniature future based game Warhammer 40000Ó
. I am really getting into this game and the army that dragged me in was Necrons.
Also check out Da Dwarf pages. I especially like the new skirmish
scenarios that GW has come up with. My favourite has to be Oi! Your fur's in my beer! I was starting to collect
parts for a brewery but I think this beer cellar might come around first! I've done alot of painting but not a
whole lot of playing.

New article: Are the Necrons too strong? May 12 2003
I play Necrons and I roll well when it comes to the we'll be back rolls. This really ticks off
my opponents to the point where they start to wonder if the Necrons are too powerful. This article takes a look at how a standard unit of Space
Marines would face off in a shooting engagement against an equal number of Necron warriors.
Beginnings of a campaign, Mar 22 2003
After some discussion with the other races, we have started working out a campaign format.
Thats the main reason nothing has been posted for a while here. This will be an ongoing series
of battles to control a solar system. It will include things like travel time between planets,
production limitations, and various missions based on what the situation is. This is a very
involved system but it will be great! The only thing lacking is space warfare as none of us
currently play Battlefleet Gothic. As soon as the site is up, I will link to it from here.
News The site for this campaign idea is still under construction. The good
part is that it is forcing some improvements to other pages at the same time. The bad side is all
those changes are slowing it down from being finished.
New Tactics Page, Jan 19 2003
The last little while I have been checking out other races in 40k to see who can kill my Necrons, and what
I can do about it. This is a tactics page or How
to keep your Necrons in one piece
Desert fuel run, Jan 12 2003
A battle report where the Midas Merc unit of Space Marines encounters some nasty Necrons. Check it out!
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone, Jan 3 2003
I hope you had a good time, I did. Late Dec 31 night I was answering some questions for a new Space Marniner, and we
had a couple little battles (1 on 1, then 5 on 6) to show him how things work. I think I properly defended the Necron
name annihilating most of the marines, and really scaring him by about 3/4 of my guys getting back up. I really have
to finish this force to take it into battle. Its getting respectable now: 2 units of 12 warriors, 3 scarabs (I have
another 3 somewhere...), 2 wraiths, a heavy destroyer, a lord with orb, and ... the Monolith! That adds up to about
432+36+82+65+100+100+230 = 1045 - I could even leave some of that wargear at home! woohoo!
Christmas came early to this gamer, Dec 23 2002
Remember way back when I said I was anxiously awaiting the Monolith? Well, due to a number of reasons I was not able to
purchase it. Now comes the gift exchanges at the end of December. My roommate - LOTR figs. "yes, they are lovely thanks"
(@#$%*) Then Matt drops a big rattly box on me - A MONOLITH! Yup, papa got a brand new bag! woohoo! Before you ask, no I
haven't started painting or even assembling it yet. I am taking my time because I'm going to mod it - flashy lights and
maybe even sound. I have to work out the details of that stuff before I start assembling it. Never fear, it won't be
long now!
And there was much rejoicing, September 2002
After starting a new job I had to celebrate, and finally got my hands on a couple wraiths. These guys are nasty looking!
I mean, no way would I stand toe-to-toe with them - I'd run like a baby, and so would you! There was lots to clean off these
guys and the assembly was 'interesting'. They are top heavy, and have a narrow support so the gluing stage was a bit trying.
Once done, the painting was straight forward, and after bumming some decals off my buddy, they are a mean looking pair!
Toronto Games Day August 21, 2002
While I was not able to attend this great event (weekend of August 17th) I have heard and seen many wonderous things.
The bestest thing was the 5 golden demon awards for Ottawa, at least 4 of which are on dispaly at the GW store at the Bayshore Mall.
Woohoo! Also the Praagg diorama (if you can call something that huge a diorama!) was breath taking. To sum up, some pictures
should be coming soon and I will either link to them or post them when/if I can.
Necron Glyph stickers August 21, 2002
Are you like me and trying to paint the glyphs on your warriors with a wobbly hand? Have you had to do like the Stone song
says and "paint it black" a few times? Well, a solution might be to buy a destroyer or the army box, or the monolith. At least
these figures (maybe more) come with the glyph stickers that will make lives soooo much easier.
Monolith monolith! July 23, 2002
I can't wait for this release in mid-August. Its going to break the bank but its going to look so cool!
How to choose a Necron Army July 23, 2002
Not having actually played my Necrons yet (2nd squad is still in the box) most of this is from my reading the rules and from lurking on the GW message board. Everyone seems to agree that putting a destroyer body on the Necron Lord is a must. It makes him instant-kill proof. Plus give him the Orb of Ressurection and now even other insta-kill weapons have problems killing him.
Next on my list is Wraiths. They don't slow down for terrain, claw through armor like warm butter, and strike terror into the hearts of your enemies. Plus you don't have to shell out an arm and a leg to use them - unit sizes are 1-3. Next is the heavy destroyer. Apart from the Monolith, these are the only guys that have a Str.9 weapon good for insta-kills and really hitting enemy vehicles. Now thats
heavy support!
Colour Schemes (or purple isn't a fruit!) July 23,2002
When the figure painting contest came around I figured I'd try it out. Thats what hooked me on the Necrons. Well that the we'll be back rule, and their tank killer weapons. Back to the painting - I tried to come up with a differnt painting scheme that was original and possible. The best I came up with was a dark metallic purple with a ceramic medium purple for the shoulder pads and hip bones.
I think it looks great, and the purple shoulders makes it easy to paint a unit insignia on them (not that its that easy..). The main colour is made by taking Tin Bitz (my new favourite colour) - about 2-3 brushes of it, then add enough liche purple until you think its starting to turn purple - about 1 or 2 brushfuls. Then slowly add some chainmail to lighten the mix until you have it as light as you want it.
I like it pretty dark but need to lighten it some to see the purple. Too light and you'll be ink washing to darken it down again. Word to the wise, the brown ink doesn't work great over this colour but will do in a pinch. The ceramic purple is liche purple lightened up slightly with bleached bone (i love this colour too!). Paint the spine chainmail as well as the wrist and shin hydraulics. Paint the guts hoses
dark angles green and lighten them up for highlights up to goblin green. The chest emblem is really nice if its dark angels green background with a shining gold emblem but a black background works great too. You might want to try painting the raised part with chainmail before the gold to make the gold shine more. Then its just drybrush the gun lightly chainmail, paint the hoses scorpion green, paint the
?capacitor? in the gun highlighted scorpion green, as well as the business end of the gun and then white glue or just snap the glowing rod into place. Do the basing (they were found on Mars originally..) and voila!
My Army List July 23, 2002
So far this is easy - 25 warriors, 6 swarms, and 1 lord. Soon to be added: destroyer lord, wraiths, and heavy destroyer. and... THE MONOLITH!
